Tuesday, August 3, 2010  -  Community Homes staff and residents participated in our very first National Night Out. National Night Out (NNO), “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” was introduced by the Association in 1984.  The Program was the brainchild of NATW Executive Director Matt A. Preskin.  This annual event takes place on the first Tuesday of every August.  The National Association of Town Watch is a non-profit, crime prevention organization which works in cooperation with thousands of crime watch groups and law enforcement agencies throughout the country.  Since 1981, NATW has been dedicated to the development, growth, and maintenance of organized crime and drug prevention programs nationwide. NATW’s network has grown to include over 6,000 crime, drug, and violence prevention organizations.

Community Homes celebrated the event and our first NNO appeared to have been a successful one.  Although it was hot and sticky outside, spirits were lifted as the residents enjoyed the taste of refreshing ice cream that was offered to them at the Community Homes Ice Cream Social.  The residents enjoyed chocolate and vanilla ice cream along with their choice of a variety of toppings, and for those who had to watch their sugar intake, sugar free ice cream were provided for them as well.  And if you didn’t like ice cream you were able to enjoy a nice glass of lemonade, soda or water.  Just as everyone was finishing up there ice cream, Mr. McGraw made a personal appearance along with his assistants who provided goodie bags for all the children.  Prizes were raffled off at the event and Mr. McGraw also assisted the host with choosing a name from the raffle jar of one of the residents. If you weren’t there you missed out.  The pictures reflect the great time we had.
