Affordable Housing

Today the CHC manages or owns 487 rental housing units in Howard County consisting of apartments, townhouses, and single-family homes.

Community Homes:
Owned by Community Homes Housing, Incorporated, Community Homes is a 300-unit development built in 1969 on five sites in the Harper’s Choice and Wilde Lake Villages of Columbia. Built for low-income to market rate renters, two thirds of the rents are subsidized and one-third is at marketrate or below.

Shalom Square:
The CHC owns and manages Shalom Sauare that is comprised of 50 garden style rental apartments for low-income senior citizens located in the Long Reach Village of Columbia.


Ellicott Terrace:
Originally purchased in partnership with the Enterprise Social Investment Corporation in 1988, CHC manages the 60-unit complex of one-and two-bedroom garden apartments. Its renters are primarily low- to moderate-income wage earners.


Orchard Club:
Forty-nine of the 196 Orchard Club units, built in partnership with Arminger Development Corporation, are available to both low and market-rate income families and individuals. This garden apartment complex is located in Elkridge, Maryland.
